Tech varsity to get regular staff: VC

Hamirpur, August 2

Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) will get regular faculty members and also recruit the supporting staff.

The HPTU had over 47 affiliated technical colleges but it had no course to offer on its campus. It was only after former VC SP Bansal assumed charge, the university started some courses here and classes began in a government school and polytechnic college here with temporary faculty. He had requested the government for the regular faculty but the request could not bring fruit till his tenure. He later joined as the VC to centre university in Dharamsala.

Dr Shashi Dhiman, Vice-Chancellor of the HPTU, said the government had approved 51 posts to be filled on a permanent basis. The university had got a sanction for 32 faculty members and 19 members of non-teaching staff.

He said for imparting better technical education to students, the government had also allowed to start courses, including BTech in computer science engineering, BCA, MSc in mathematics and computational science.

He said the HPTU had also started courses in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science. The university would undertake academic reforms to effectively implement the New Education Policy, he added.
