Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today accused Congress leaders of misleading the people of the state on the issue of the old pension scheme (OPS). He was addressing a gathering at Kandaghat in the district as part of the Progressive Himachal: 75 Years of Formation programme. He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 13 developmental projects worth Rs 145 crore at Kandaghat.

He said that Himachal was one of the first states to sign the agreement to implement the new pension scheme and discontinue the OPS. "People must ask Congress leaders why they have not implemented the old pension scheme in Congress-ruled states," he said.
The Chief Minister said that there were only four districts when Himachal Pradesh came into existence on April 15, 1948. The population at that time was a little over 11 lakh but it has now risen to over 70 lakh. He added that the state had an area of 25,839 sq km at the time of formation while today its total area is 55,673 sq km.
He said that the literacy rate of the state at present is over 83 per cent compared to around 4.8 per cent in 1948. The state had made immense progress in the fields of health, education, horticulture, tourism and allied sectors. He announced the opening of a degree college at Mamleeg, provided it fulfils all parameters.
At Subathu, the Chief Minister, while addressing a public meeting, announced taking over of GGDSD College, upgrade of Primary Health Centre to community health centre, opening of a health sub centre at Jadli gram panchayat and the upgrade of Government Middle School Koti to high school. He also announced the upgrade of Subathu as a sub tehsil. He said that the nation was celebrating 75 years of Independence and Himachal Pradesh was also celebrating 75 years of its existence. — TNS
