Shimla, July 13

The special Investigation team (SIT) will grill eight officers, including one IGP, one DIG and five SPs, to find out their direct criminal involvement in the constable recruitment paper leak case. It had called three officers to Mandi and questioned two of them yesterday and today.

"The SIT is looking into the acts of commission by police officers, who were involved in the conduct of the exam. Investigation is underway and two officers have been questioned. More officers will be questioned in due course of time," said Madhusudan, DIG (Central Range, Mandi), who heads the SIT.

Earlier also, the SIT had given questionnaires to the members of the paper setting and printing committees. The members of both committees were to maintain secrecy and ensure that no information was leaked at any point from setting papers to their printing till the distribution of question papers. DGP Sanjay Kundu had said that the police headquarters would recommend administrative action against officers found guilty.

The police have also constituted a Board of Officers comprising the IGP, Communication and Technical Services, DIG, Police Training College, and Deputy Controller, Finance and Accounts, to look into their acts of omission.

The paper cutter had leaked the final print of 80 questions from the printing press. The SIT investigation had revealed that the paper setting committee had prepared a bank of 200 handwritten questions but the candidates, who paid money for the leaked paper, were made to memorise the final 80 questions/answers by the agents.

Several interstate organised gangs were involved in leaking the paper. So far, 171 persons (44 agents, 116 candidates and the fathers of nine candidates) have been arrested from Himachal, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Delhi.
