Murmu meets BJP MPs, MLAs at Baddi

Solan, July 1

NDA's presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu today began her election campaign from Baddi where she met BJP MLAs and MPs and sought their support.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, state party president Suresh Kashyap, Cabinet ministers, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Arjun Ram Megwal and all MLAs, barring Mandi Sadar MLA Anil Sharma, were present.

The Chief Minister highlighted how Murmur had faced grave hardships in tribal areas and still achieved success. "The BJP has 45 MLAs now after two Independent MLAs joined the party. One MLA, who is not here today, will be requested to support you. There are three Rajya Sabha MPs and four Lok Sabha MPs in Himachal and they all will support you," he said and invited her to visit the state after being elected President.

Anurag threw light on her political career and how she had braved hardships. "She was the first Lady Governor who rose to this position from being a teacher".

Megwal said, "The 1971 census forms the basis of this poll and it will change after the 2026 delimitation. It is an important election where each vote matters. The vote value of an MLA in Himachal is 51. Hence, if any vote is declared invalid it will harm her winning prospects". —TNS
