Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said movement of farmers will be intensified in Himachal Pradesh to protect their rights.

Addressing the media here today, Tikait said in view of the promotion of tourism in Himachal, the state government was focusing on expanding railway network, national highways and airports. "For this, agricultural land of farmers is being acquired for these development projects. However, farmers are struggling to get fair compensation for giving their land for these development projects," he said.

"The four-lane highway affected farmers of the state have been demanding four times high compensation for their land as per present market rates. But till now government is reluctant to provide them fair compensation," he added.

"Our fight will continue to protect the rights of farmers in Himachal as well as across the country. Efforts would be made to unite farmers over burning issues related to farmers," he added.

He said soon a draft related to demands of farmers would be submitted to the state government for further action. "If the government does not pay heed towards our demands, the next action will be taken accordingly," he added.
