Shimla, June 21
The Congress has decided to celebrate the 89th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on June 23 as Vikas Diwas. It has also decided to hold functions in all 72 blocks to pay tributes to its leader. A function will be held in the party office here to remember Virbhadra in the presence of his wife Pratibha Singh, HPCC president, said Devinder Bushahri, Congress spokesperson.
Rajya Sabha MP and in-charge of party affairs in Himachal Rajeev Shukla held a series of meetings with senior party leaders, MLAs, office-bearers and heads of al frontal organisations to gear up the party for the Assembly elections due later this year. All senior leaders, including Pratibha Singh, Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, Chairman of the Campaign Committee Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and one of the working presidents Harsh Mahajan attended the meeting.
Shukla urged party workers to get ready for the elections and counter BJP's false propaganda on core issues, especially those concerning common people. He said that issues such as unemployment, price rise and protecting the interests of farmers need to be given prominence.
Shukla held a series of talks with all committees. Agnihotri and Sukhu said that the party was united to take on the BJP and people had made up their mind to oust the party from power. —TNS
