KULLU, JUNE 22
A scuffle was witnessed today between the police and Congress workers during a demonstration held by the party regarding the poor condition of education and roads in Manali. Congress workers later burnt the effigy of the Education Minister.
While the Congress rally was being taken out in Dhalpur regarding the shortage of teachers, the effigy of Manali MLA and Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur was also being taken for burning.
Kullu police personnel were present in civil uniform to prevent the effigy of the minister from being set ablaze.
The policemen tried to snatch the effigy when the Congress workers reached Dhalpur Chowk but the Youth Congress workers thwarted the efforts of the police and managed to burn the effigy.
Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Bhuvneshwar Gaur said that many schools were running in old buildings and there was shortage of teachers in many schools in Kullu district.
"This shows the condition of the education system in the education minister's home area. From this, the condition in the entire state can be well imagined," he said.
Gaur said there was anger among the people of Manali Assembly constituency against the education minister. The condition of roads was very bad in many areas. People were facing problems everyday but the minister was only giving assurances.
He said that the minister would have to face the consequences in the coming Assembly elections.
