Shimla, June 17
The Congress today demanded that the Agnipath scheme announced by the Centre should be dropped as it's a cruel joke with the unemployed youth of the county, who will be discouraged to join the forces.
In a statement issued here, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, chairman of the Congress Campaign Committee, said the Modi regime was hurting the sentiments of the lakhs of unemployed youth who were expecting a job in the Army. Congress MLA Vikramaditya Singh said Agnipath scheme for Army recruitment was a bad joke with the youth of the country.
"We demand that the Centre should restore the old pattern of permanent recruitment in the Army. Youth from many states like Himachal are keen to join the Army and they train hard by spending huge amounts on training to be able to clear the written exam and the physical test," he said.
"There is anger and resentment among the youth against this scheme. They are agitated over the fact that they have not been recruited even two years after clearing the physical for army recruitment," said Sukhu.
