Agnipath beneficial, being politicised: Himachal CM

Kullu, June 18

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said today that it was unfortunate opposition parties were politicising a far-sighted and beneficial scheme such as Agnipath. He inaugurated a 100-bed Mother Child Section (MCS) in the Regional Hospital here constructed at a cost of Rs 12.95 crore.

Agniveers Will be accommodated

The Agnipath scheme will instil nationalism in youth. The state and Central governments will think how to prioritise the recruitment of Agniveers in police and Home Guards departments and other sectors. Many options will be available to them. Jai Ram Thakur, Chief Minister

Thakur, while addressing mediapersons later, said that the Agnipath scheme was beneficial for the youth as they would get a golden opportunity to serve in the Army. "The scheme will also develop nationalism in the youth. After serving in the Army for four years, 25 per cent of the youth will be recruited permanently. The state and Central governments will ponder over how to prioritise the recruitment of Agniveers in police and Home Guards departments and other sectors. Multiple options will be available to the Agniveers," he added.

He said that the foundation stone of the MCS building was laid in 2018 and the then Union Health Minister JP Nadda had made a tremendous contribution to improving health infrastructure in the state.

Thakur said that vacant posts of doctor in the hospital would be filled soon. The number of posts of doctor, paramedic and nurse would be increased as the capacity of the hospital had increased from 300 beds to 400 beds. He added that it was justified for the local MLA to raise development issues but he unfortunately used a foul language. The Chief Minister also inaugurated health sub-centres at Mohal and Bagan constructed at a cost of Rs 47 lakh and Rs 16 lakh, respectively.

Later, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Block Development Office at Bhuntar built at a cost of Rs 80 lakh. He also inaugurated the Nagar Panchayat office at Bhuntar and addressed a public meeting at the Mela Ground on the closing ceremony of the Bhuntar Mela. He announced the upgrade of various schools in Kullu district.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had granted projects worth Rs 14,000 crore to Himachal.
