Primary classes for BEd degree holders opposed

Shimla, November 30

Students pursuing junior basic training (JBT) held demonstrations at Tolland in Shimla after the police restricted them from marching to the secretariat.

The students holding banners with 'Justice for JBT students' written on them, opposed the decision allowing BEd-pass persons to teach students of Classes I to V. The students said there were about 50,000 unemployed JBT teachers in the state and if the BEd-pass were allowed to teach primary classes, they would not get jobs.

"Why has the government opened 40 colleges if the JBT teachers will not get jobs?" the protesters questioned. They urged the state government to file an appeal against the decision of the High Court.
