Strict instructions have been issued to political parties and District Election Officers to ensure adherence to Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the upcoming byelections, said state Chief Electoral Officer C Paulrasu here today.
"Instructions have been given to appoint Health Nodal Officers at the state, district and Assembly levels," he said, adding that the District Election Officers and Election Officers concerned have been asked to take all necessary steps for coordination with the health officers.
He said strict guidelines had been given to all candidates and political parties to ensure the compliance of SOPs during the election campaign. The DCs had been asked to ensure the availability of thermal scanners, sanitisers, soap and water, gloves, face shields, masks etc at polling stations.
Door-to-door campaigns can be done with five persons, including the candidate. Road shows, bike and cycle rallies are not allowed, he said, During campaigning through video, not more than 50 persons would be allowed in one cluster point. Thirty per cent of the allowed capacity or 200 persons, whichever is less, would be allowed for indoor meetings.
