Shimla, September 24
Schools in Himachal will reopen for students of Classes 9-12 on September 27--a development that comes despite the fact that the state's positivity rate has been steadily rising.
The Himachal Cabinet took a decision to reopen schools for the higher classes at a Cabinet meeting that Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur chaired.
In an attempt to avoid overcrowding, the cabinet has decided that classes will be held in a staggered fashion—Classes 10 and 12 will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Classes 9 and 11 will be called for the remaining working days—Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Positivity rate up in Himachal Pradesh, uncertainty over reopening of schools
Online classes and examinations will continue for students up to Class 8.
This comes after the government decided to extend school closure up to September 25 earlier this month to avoid a new surge in Covid-19 cases.
Residential schools however opened two months ago and have since been holding their usual classes but with Covid protocols.
