A major mishap was averted on Sunday morning when a truck carrying apple boxes from Shimla-Parwanoo, turned turtle and was stuck in a pit overlooking a steep gorge, after its driver lost control near Timber Trail Resort on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway.
The pit—which was dug up to erect piers of an upcoming bridge on the highway—proved to be a saving grace for the truck.
The apple boxes tumbled out of the truck, and rolled down, causing a loss worth lakhs to its owner.
