The threat posed to villages due to the blockage of the Chenab in Lahaul-Spiti seems to have been averted with most of the debris has been removed.
A team of experts, headed by Director, Central Water Commission, NN Rai visited the site on Sunday to assess the situation and suggest measures to avert any mishap.
The team comprised Piyush Ranjan, Director, CWC, Shimla; Rohit Sharma, Assistant Commissioner, Keylong; Col Arun from the Army; Sandeep Kumar Rawal, inspector, NDRF; and Ramchandra Negi, Naib Tehsildar, Udaipur.
A major landslide blocked the flow of the Chenab near Nalda village in Lahaul-Spiti, causing panic among villagers, living downstream on August 13. As a precautionary measure, the local authorities had evacuated people along the river due to the formation of a lake. — TNS
