High Court: Remove highway encroachers

Shimla, July 25

The High Court has directed the government to ensure that all encroachments along highways are removed within three months. The HC directed the state to file the compliance report by October 25.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Tarlok Sigh Chauhan and Justice Satyen Vaidya observed, "It is not only high time but also necessary to discourage encroachers immediately. It is on account of higher returns that such illegal encroachments are carried out on prime properties along national highways and structures are constructed by the unscrupulous persons without any right. Therefore, all such cases of encroachments have to be dealt with sternly and swiftly."

The court passed the direction yesterday. It observed, "The very object and purpose of encroaching the highway land by raising a dhaba by the petitioner is only to make a quick buck by illegal means and it will not be permissible at any costs."— OC
